CHICAGO — San Francisco right-hander Jeff Samardzija will make his second postseason appearance in the same place he began his major league career.

Samardzija will get the ball for the Giants in Game 2 of the NL Division Series against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night. He was drafted by the Cubs in 2006 and spent his first 6 1/2 seasons with the team before he was traded to Oakland in the 2014 deal that sent shortstop Addison Russell to the Cubs.

In his last outing against the Cubs, Samardzija threw 47 pitches in the first inning.

Kyle Hendricks will start Game 2 for the Cubs. Hendricks is coming off a breakout season, going 16-8 with a major league-best 2.13 ERA.

Samardzija, a native of nearby Merrillville, Indiana, who also played baseball and football at Notre Dame, signed a $90 million, five-year contract with San Francisco last winter.
