CHICAGO -- It's a marathon tradition, painting a path for runners to follow.

The 2016 Chicago Marathon is just five days away and crews were out at various locations downtown Monday night charting a course for marathon participants.

They painted blue lines along the 26-mile route.

40,000 people are expected to participate in the Bank of America Marathon, and 1.7 million people will line up along the marathon route to cheer on the runners.
