CHICAGO -- Two people were shot and killed in two separate shootings on Chicago’s Eisenhower Expressway Thursday.

Both of the men killed in these shootings are 22 years old.

Police say they do not believe the shootings were related.

Shortly before noon Devon Almon was killed on the  eastbound side of I-290 at the exit ramp to Central Ave.

Family members say the female driver of the car Devon was in at the time of the shooting drove him to the hospital.

Six hours earlier, less than a mile away on the westbound side, Johnathon Ortiz was killed near the Laramie exit.

Ortiz was an aspiring rapper. His girlfriend Alexis Garcia was injured. Relatives say the two were headed to breakfast.

Traffic was shut down during the morning rush while Illinois State Police searched for evidence.

Earlier this year, State Police launched the Chicago Expressway Anti-Violence Surge to try to stop escalating violence on the city’s expressways. Illinois State Police is leading the investigation.
