Chicago popsicle vendor in viral photo gets GoFundMe money

CHICAGO -- On Wednesday, a popsicle salesman in Little Village received the money that was raised for him by strangers.

Fidencio Sanchez was presented with a huge check at a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at 25th and Pulaski. The money was donated by more than 17,000 on GoFundMe, and the the total amount on the check $384,290.

The two men who started the GoFundMe campaign were there to give him the check. They don't know Sanchez, but they were moved after a photograph of him went viral on social media.

Sanchez is 89 years old.

He and his wife recently lost their adult daughter, who supported them. The campaign accepted money for nine days, before it ended on Monday
