CHICAGO – This September Cubs fans aren’t thinking about next year just yet.

Especially with their team just a few steps away from a National League Central Division Championship.

But on Wednesday the team did give fans a glimpse of what will be ahead for the 2017 Cubs as they released a tentative schedule for the season.

Like the 2016 season the Cubs will open the season on the road as they face the Cardinals on Monday, April 3rd at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.  The Cubs will have a three-game series there and then three in Milwaukee before coming home to Wrigley Field to start the home schedule.

The opening night game is Monday, April 10th against the Dodgers at 7:05 PM. This will mark the third-consecutive year that the Cubs will start their home schedule with a night game.

In May the New York Yankees make a rare visit to Wrigley Field for a weekend series from the 5th through the 7th. A week before the Cubs head to Fenway Park for the first time since 2011 to face the Red Sox April 28-30th.

Joe Maddon’s former team – the Tampa Bay Rays – visit Wrigley Field for a two-game series on July 4th and 5th.

Late July will also feature a four-game series with the White Sox in the same format as this season with two games played at Wrigley Field and two at Guaranteed Rate Field. In 2017 the Cubs will host the first two games of the series on July 24th and 25th with the White Sox hosting the final two games on the 26th and 26th.

For the first time since 2012 the Cubs will finish their regular season at home as they face the Cincinnati Reds September 29th through October 1st.
