CHICAGO -- A 1-year-old was critically injured by a falling TV on Thursday afternoon.

Police say the child was hurt around 11 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Van Buren on the Near West Side.

The identity and the gender of the child has not been released at this time.

Television tip-over accidents are not uncommon. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says 25,000 children are injured each year from falling TV’s, furniture and appliances.

The message to parents is to make sure you anchor and secure televisions and top heavy furniture.
