UNINCORPORATED WHEATON, Ill. — Investigators are still trying to identify a baby that was found dead in a backpack left near a road in unincorporated Wheaton, and now they’re offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who helps them find the mother of “Baby Hope.”

A local resident spotted the backpack in the middle of a private drive the morning of August 15. Later in the day two landscapers discovered the dead newborn with dark hair inside the bag.

Dubbed “Baby Hope,” the newborn’s identity is still unknown, so the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help. In addition to looking for “Hope’s” parents, the sheriff released images of the worn Everest backpack the baby was found in (below).

“Every tip, lead or piece of information from the public is of the highest importance in bringing this tragic case to a close,” the DuPage Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office at 630-407-2400 or text anonymously to 2574637 with the word SHERIFF and your message.
