CHICAGO – Police have issued a warning for residents on the North Side after a man attempted to lure a boy into a van.

Police say the 8-year-old boy was outside his home Monday in the 3600 block of Whipple St around 7 p.m. when an unknown male driving a white minivan approached. Police say the driver parked along the curb and asked the boy, “Do you want some candy.” The boy said no repeatedly and ran across the street to a friend’s home and police were called.

The suspect fled southbound on Whipple.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male, between 30-40 years old with curly blond hair on top of his head and dark hair on the side of his head. He was wearing a navy blue polo shirt.

The vehicle he was driving was a white minivan with a blue strip along the doors.

Police say to call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
