Violent car crash kills pedestrian, pins driver

MAYWOOD, Ill. -- A pedestrian was killed Wednesday after he was struck violently by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in west suburban Maywood.

Witnesses say the female driver was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Roosevelt Road approaching 9th St around 4 p.m.

Witnesses say the driver tried to make the turn and hit a man walking through the intersection and then hit the traffic light.

The car started on fire and driver was pinned in her car and had to be cut out.

Traffic had to be rerouted for several hours as investigators took statements and measurements.

The age and identity of the victim has not yet been released.

No word on charges at this time.
