CHICAGO – The National Storm Prediction Center has outlooked the Chicago area for a Marginal Risk of severe thunderstorms today through Thursday (see dark green-shaded area on highlighted Wednesday severe weather outlook map above and Thursday severe weather outlook map below). A Marginal Risk calls for a 5% chance of severe storms within 25 miles of a given location. A Slight Risk (15% chance of severe storms within 25 miles of a given location) is shaded in yellow on the Wednesday severe weather outlook map and extends from southern Iowa and northern Missouri into west-central Illinois.

There will be a band of showers/thunderstorms move east through our area this morning, but the best chance of strong to severe storms appears to be late this afternoon/evening into the overnight hours and then again during the afternoon/evening Thursday. Heavy flood-producing downpours are most likely to occur here, but damaging winds and hail could accompany strongest storms.
