FOREST PARK, Ill. — The family of a 16-year-old boy is suing a Forest Park hospital, claiming he was sexually assaulted by another patient last year.

The suit charges Riveredge Hospital, a behavioral and mental health facility, was negligent in the supervision of patients when the minor was “violently sexually assaulted” by another patient on March 11, 2015.

The alleged assault took place while the teen was in a secured room with the other patient.

The family claims the hospital never disclosed the other patient’s history of violent behavior and failed to care for the teen after it became aware of the assault.

The suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court seeks more than $500,000.
