Autopsy today for baby found dead in duffel bag near Wheaton

UNINCORPORATED WHEATON, Ill. -- An autopsy was scheduled today after the body of a baby was found in Unincorporated Wheaton.

A resident spotted a suspicious duffel bag around 8 a.m. Monday on a private road with six houses, near a golf course, just off Plamondon Road.

Later in the day, two landscapers discovered the dead newborn with dark hair inside the bag.

Investigators shut down the surrounding roads for several hours while conducting a death investigation.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help to identify the baby and the parents. The gender and exact age of the baby is unknown at this time.

A statement was issued by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office saying:

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with a current investigation of an infant found deceased. Please contact the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office with any information at 630-407-2400.

Right now they've released no details about who left the baby in the middle of the street.
