The fair issued a statement Friday night saying:

Due to inclement weather and for the safety of all fairgoers, State Fair Manager Kevin Gordon announced the Illinois State Fair is closing for the night.  Friday night’s storms prompted fairgoers to seek shelter in permanent structures throughout the fairgrounds.  The slow moving weather system dumped a significant amount of rainfall on the grounds leading to the flooded streets, buildings and barns.

Earlier in the night the tents were evacuated and people were told to seek shelter in permanent structures.

They have also closed gates to incoming traffic.

With the early closure of the fairgrounds, the Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo and Melissa Etheridge concert was canceled.

"Customers who purchased tickets from TicketMaster by phone and internet will be credited for their purchase.  If the tickets were bought at a TicketMaster outlet, they can be brought back to the purchase location to be refunded," the statement said.

Several fair goers posted photos and videos from the fair grounds.
