CHICAGO - Tommy La Stella is not in Chicago. He's not in Des Moines either. The Cubs' utility man is at home, in New Jersey, mulling over his future with the organization.

"He's not angry. He's not upset. He's just at that point now - he doesn't know exactly what he wants to do." remarked Cubs skipper, Joe Maddon at today's pregame press conference.

La Stella was optioned down to AAA Iowa on July 29th, but has yet to show up.

So what's he been doing the past 11 days?

"He's working out," noted Maddon. "Honestly, that's all I know. I don't know exactly when he's going to come back."

If and when La Stella returns from his hiatus, Maddon says he'll have to get back into the swing of things with the I-Cubs before joining the big league roster.

Prior to his demotion, La Stella was batting .295 with two home runs and eight RBI in 51 games with the Cubs.
