Man, 20, drowns after jumping into Chicago River

CHICAGO — A man drowned in the Chicago River early Friday morning.

The 20-year-old man was out with friends when he decided to go for a swim in the river, according to Chicago police.

He jumped in the river, between Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive, shortly after midnight.

Two friends, who were with him, jumped in to try to save him.

When the CPD Marine Unit arrived the man was under water. They revived him, and transported him to Northwestern Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s friends were also taken to Northwestern and are in good condition.
