50-years ago today, Martin Luther King Jr. led march in Marquette Park

CHICAGO -- Community leaders are unveiling a permanent memorial to Martin Luther King Jr. and the Chicago freedom movement.

It was on this date 50-years ago, that MLK led a march through Chicago’s Marquette Park neighborhood, seeking open housing.

To mark the anniversary, community leaders have planned a number of events.

They'll march along a portion of the original 1966 route through Marquette Park.

The march will end at the site of the new memorial.
