Woman attacked by machete-wielding man in Logan Square

CHICAGO -- Police have released a warning after a man attacked a woman with a machete in the city's Logan Square neighborhood.

The attack happened around 2:45 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of North Springfield Ave.

Police say the man convinced the woman to get into his green minivan.

When inside the minivan, the man attacked her, but she was able to run away. He chased after her carrying a machete-type knife and cut her several times, then got back into his van and drove off.

The woman was cut throughout the head and body causing serious injuries.

Police say the man may be targeting women who engage in high-risk activity.

The attacker is described as a Hispanic man, about 5-foot-8 to 6-feet tall, and in his late 30s to early 50s. He has black hair and a mustache. He was wearing a white and colored T-shirt and black and white shorts.
