Next governor of Illinois hot topic at DNC

PHILADELPHIA – For some Illinois delegates at the Democratic National Convention, talk turned to the race of Illinois governor.

It’s still two years away but the rapid political ascent of Donald Trump has given rise to some comparisons between the wealthy Republican nominee for president and Gov Bruce Rauner. Needless to say, among democrats from our budget-less state, those comparisons are not favorable.

From Sen Dick Durbin to Attorney General Lisa Madigan to Valerie Jarret, several names created buzz during Day 1 of the DNC.

But the recurring theme of this morning’s two-hour Illinois delegates’ breakfast is what they say is a need for a Democratic governor.
