CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have suspended pitcher Chris Sale following a bizarre clubhouse altercation that took place Saturday.
According to the team, the Sox ace is suspended for five days following an investigation into the incident, which took place before the team took the field against the Detroit Tigers. Sale was scratched from his start.
The White Sox say Sale is suspended for "violating team rules, for insubordination and for destroying team equipment."
His suspension began Saturday and will run through Wednesday.
Multiple reports say Sale was upset about having to wear the team's throwback uniforms before Saturday, so he cut them.
Sale has been the center of trade rumors over the past week, with the Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox reportedly at the forefront of trying to land the lefty superstar.
The Sox recalled Anthony Ranaudo from AAA to fill Sale's roster spot.
