CLEVELAND -- So who is this Mike Pence, this vice presidential pick of Donald Trump?

Governor Mike Pence works right next door to Illinois. Yet, tonight when Illinois delegates will listen to his convention speech, it may be the first time they've heard the guy talk.

“All I know about Mike Pence is that he’s had a very successful career in Congress,” said Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar. “And most recently governor of Indiana where they have a lot fewer problems than we do.”

That's the Pence pitch. He's made Indiana run exactly the opposite way Illinois has been run. But what about details?  Anything?

“Very impressive record,” said Illinois delegate Tracey Doyle. “I knew that Indiana was doing quite well.”

So, surprisingly, this conservative guy, relatively unknown veep candidate, will introduce himself to his neighbors directly to the west, as the new second in command to a man who’s had board games named after himself for years.

“I didn’t know a lot about Mike Pence, I have to tell you,” said Paul Minch of Downers Grove.
