Indiana sheriff’s officer charged with DUI in hit-and-run

GARY, Ind. — A Lake County, Indiana sheriff’s officer was arrested for a DUI that caused a hit-and-run crash.

State police say Lieutenant Guy Mikulich was drunk, in his unmarked patrol car, when he struck a man and his minivan Sunday.

The victim, Derrick Dircks, suffered serious injuries.

A Gary police officer stopped Mikulich and saw damage on his car.

Blood tests showed his alcohol level at .15 percent.

Mikulich is being placed on paid administrative leave, pending the investigation.

He is charged with Operating While Intoxicated causing Bodily Injury and Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash both felonies.
