CHICAGO – Alex Avila will not be in the White Sox lineup tonight.

The Sox veteran catcher was placed on the 15-day disabled list today with a strained right hamstring.

Omar Narvaez has been called up to handle backup catching duties for the time being.

Narvaez will take Jake Petricka’s spot on the 40-man roster.

Petricka is expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing hip surgery on June 10th.

Narvaez is batting .239 with eight doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI in a combined 54 games for AAA Charlotte and AA Birmingham.

The 24-year-old catching prospect will wear number 38 for the Sox.
