AVON, Oh. — A motel clerk in northeast Ohio may face charges after she reported a motel guest as a potential terrorist.

The clerk’s father called 911 to say his daughter overheard the visitor on his phone and pledging his allegiance to ISIS. Police arrived fully armed at the Fairfield Inn in Avon, just outside of Cleveland; they questioned the guest and determined he was falsely accused.

He was just a businessman from the United Arab Emirates, in Ohio for some medical treatment. The local chief of police later told the man he was sorry in person, and video of the apology was posted online.

The clerk has been fired.
