EVANSTON, Ill. — Evanston police are investigating after a man was shot in the parking lot of an IHOP restaurant early Sunday morning.

Evanston police say the victim, 25, walked into the emergency room at St. Francis Hospital with gunshot wounds to his torso, arm and leg. He had already left the IHOP at roughly 5 a.m. when police arrived at the scene.

According to police the victim along with several witnesses were in the parking lot on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue when an African-American man in his 20s wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt approached and asked the victim his gang affiliation. When the victim denied being in a gang, the man allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim three times. He then fled the scene in a grey vehicle.

The victim is expected to survive.
