Cubs pitcher Jon Lester picks up a win over the Braves at Turner Field on June 12th.

Sharing the mound with the reigning Cy Young Award winner can overshadow a pitcher, but the Cubs’ Jon Lester did not let that stop him from producing the best June in the National League.

After six outstanding outings last month, Lester has been named the NL Pitcher of the Month. This is the first time Lester has been the NL Pitcher of the Month, but was the AL Pitcher of the month in July 2008, September 2008, and May 2010.

During his four wins in June, Lester pitched 44.2 innings, giving up only 7 earned runs, while striking out 44 compared to 7 walks.

Not known for his skill at the plate, Lester even helped his own cause with two RBIs last month.

Catch Lester as he looks to build off his great month with his first start of July in today’s matchup against the Mets at 12:10 on WGN.
