NEW YORK – Jeimer Candelario is making his big league debut today, starting at third base in place of Chris Coghlan.

The Cubs put Coghlan on the 15-day disabled after he strained his right rib cage in last night’s game.

Candelario is batting .333 with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs and 15 RBI in 25 games with the Iowa Cubs.

The 22-year-old switch-hitting infielder was recently named to the World Team at the Futures Game next month at the All-Star Game in San Diego.

Candelario will wear number seven and bat sixth.
