CHICAGO -- A man was taken to the hospital in serious to critical condition after a stabbing incident inside a North Side McDonald's Monday afternoon.

It happened just before 3 p.m. at the McDonald's in the 3600 block of west Irving Park, near Elston.

Police say the 27-year-old man was stabbed in the lower back while he was in the entryway to the restaurant. Police believe the victim knew his attacker and that this was part of an internal gang dispute.

The man who attacked him ran away after the stabbing.

Police say they are investigating but so far no one is in custody.
