CHICAGO -- Police say a 24-year-old man was killed and two others were shot during a confrontation in the public housing complex known as the “Village” on the city’s Near West Side.

Close friends identified the man killed as Eric Washington.

“He was so loving… he’s going to be missed,” friend Charlitta Guyton said.

Details remain unclear as police piece together the events that led up to the shooting.

Two of the victims apparently worked as security guards for the KATES Detective Agency, a private security firm with offices on the South Side.  They drove to the 12th District police station after the shooting and were taken to Stroger Hospital. One guard suffered multiple gunshot wounds and the other was shot in the hand.

No one answered the door or the phone at the company’s offices Saturday.

The entrance of the station remained taped off this morning as investigators search for clues and review surveillance video from a number of cameras at the scene.

But for the victim’s friend Charlitta Guyton, one aspect of the case is already clear: another young life has been lost to senseless gun violence.

“It needs to stop, for real. It’s sad,” Guyton said.

So far police have not made any arrests and they say this investigation is ongoing.
