CHICAGO -- The 17-year-old boy accused of shooting a little girl as she was playing with other children earlier this week is expected to appear in Juvenile Court today, charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.

Police say he has been positively identified as the person who was driving the car and fired the shots that hit 6-year-old Jaylene Bermeo.

Jaylene is still in the hospital and the bullet is still inside her body, but she's expected to make a full recovery.  Doctors hope to discharge here in a couple of days.

Her family issued a statement today thanking everyone for their support and asking that they keep "the little dancing queen" in their prayers.

Jaylene was shot Monday night as she and other children played in front of a home in the 2100 block of North Bingham. Police say the shooter was aiming at other gang members.

The 17-year-old was arrested the day after the shooting but he was not charged until Wednesday night. His name has not been released because he is considered a minor.
