Multiple people are dead after a motorist plowed into a group of pedestrians and bikers in Kalamazoo County (WXMI)

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — Five people are dead and four people are seriously injured after a pick-up truck plowed into a group of nine bicycle riders in Kalamazoo County Tuesday evening.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of N. Westnedge Avenue.

Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Getting says police received calls about the pick-up truck driving erratically in the thirty minutes leading up to the crash.

The driver, a 50-year-old man, is in custody.

Getting says all nine victims were adults. The men and women had been riding bikes together.

Police are working to identify the victims. Charges are not expected before Thursday.
