CHICAGO --  Chicago police have no suspects in custody in a drive-by shooting that critically injured a 6-year-old girl.

It happened just after 8 p.m. Monday in the 2100 block of Bingham St. in the city's Palmer Square neighborhood.

Police say she was playing outside of her home when a car pulled up and fired several shots.

The girl was shot in the back and was transported by family members to St. Mary's Hospital before being transferred by ambulance to Stroger Hospital.

Family members told WGN off camera that the girl's condition has stabilized, but it's still touch and go as doctors try to determine if they will have to perform surgery.
