CHICAGO — More police officers will be on patrol at North Avenue Beach after a second large fight in the last week.

Four people were hurt Friday, and three others were taken into police custody.

Witnesses say multiple fights broke out at about 3 p.m. Friday.

They say they saw underaged people drinking alcohol and using drugs.

There was another big brawl at North Avenue Beach on Memorial Day.

“District Command is over there, and the area deputy chiefs are putting resources over there. So they’re putting more civilian-dressed officers over there as well as uniformed officers,” said CPD Supt. Eddie Johnson. “And then in the next week or so, we’re going to announce another initiative to address lakefront issues.

Johnson says police will be cracking down on underage drinking, which he believes is causing the fights.
