Man killed, woman injured after shot while sitting in pickup on Michigan Avenue

CHICAGO -- A man was killed and a woman was injured after they were shot on Michigan Avenue in the city's South Loop.

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. Monday in the 2400 block of S. Michigan Avenue. A 23-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were sitting in a pickup truck when two people approached them. One of them opened fire.

The woman was shot in her right leg, and the man, identified as Sami Salaymeh,  was shot in his stomach and arm.

The driver of the pickup truck drove the two victims to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Salaymeh man died from his injuries. The woman is in good condition.

Salaymeh would have turned 28 this month. He was in the music industry and living with his mother in Hanover Park.

The pickup truck they were driving at the time of the shooting appears to belong to a company called American Dream Home Improvement. An employee of the company was driving the truck.

No one is in custody. Police say this was not a gang-related incident.
