BOISE, Id. — A young boy is expected to make a full recovery after doctors say he was internally decapitated.

Killian and his mother, Brandy, were visiting family in Boise, Idaho when they got into a car accident last week.

4-year-old Killian’s head was severed from his spine, but his skin was able to hold his body together.

An off-duty police officer and his wife stopped to help. The woman held Killian’s head perfectly still for more than 30-minutes until paramedics arrived.

Doctors say she likely saved his life.

Killian also broke his arm and several ribs, but he’s eating, walking, and sitting up by himself — all without surgery.

His mother broke both legs and needed surgery.

Both are expected to make a full recovery.
