CHICAGO -- A video released by the Independent Police Review Authority Friday shows a 2014 police shooting of a driver as he reversed near them in an attempt to flee.

The video captured from a second-floor window shows police surrounding 39-year-old Michael Cote of Michigan after they responded to a call about a traffic accident in the Wicker Park neighborhood.
Cote was shot as he reversed his SUV, but he survived. No officers were injured. He was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer in addition to other charges in connection with the incident.
Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson said in a statement over 300 videos were released in an effort to promote transparency.
"The release and availability of this evidence illustrates the challenges our officers face every day when they put their lives on the line to protect the city of Chicago," Johnson said.
