CHICAGO — Heavy rain and storms are developing across the Chicago area and are expected to continue through the evening.

A building at the Hinsdale Lake Terrace Apartments in unincorporated Willowbrook, Illinois, has been evacuated after a storm tore off the building’s roof.


Half-inch hail and wind gusts in excess of 40 mph will be possible with these storms. Locations impacted include Chicago, Naperville, Elgin, Cicero, Hammond, Arlington Heights, Evanston, Schaumburg, Palatine, Skokie, Des Plaines, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn, Berwyn, Mount Prospect, Wheaton, Hoffman Estates, Oak Park and Downers Grove.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
lead to flash flooding. There have been reports of trees falling on cars and buildings in Forest Park and Oak Park.

Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports are also experiencing delays as storms blow through the area. They are encouraging travelers to check with their specific airline for any further information.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is also occurring with these storms.
