CHICAGO -- Funeral services will be held on the South side this morning for the veteran 311 dispatcher who was killed while coming out of a Starbucks last week.

Yvonne Nelson had just gotten coffee at 35th and Michigan when she was hit by a stray bullet.

A man in a car had opened fire on a suspected gang member.

The shooting happened just down the street from Chicago Police Headquarters.

A wake will be held at 10 a.m. this morning at the Martin Temple AME Zion Church, 6930 S. Cottage Grove Ave., with a funeral immediately following.

Many in the city gathered at a vigil last night to honor Yvonne while also praying for a peaceful holiday weekend in Chicago.

Police say they have a good idea who they are looking for in the shooting but so far no arrests.

The vigil and funeral comes as Chicago police are beefing up patrols to try and avoid a repeat of last year’s Memorial Day violence in which a dozen people were killed and 44 injured.
