Riders get stuck on opening night of Navy Pier’s new Ferris Wheel

CHICAGO – Passengers on Navy Pier’s new Ferris Wheel were stuck Friday night for a short time after the attraction lost power.

Navy Pier interim communications director Jon Kaplan said the Centennial Wheel experience some sort of “electric issue” and lost power at around 8 p.m.

Passengers were stranded for about 20-30 minutes while crews worked to fix the issue.

Power resumed around 8:40 p.m.

No one was injured.

Navy Pier refunded money to the passengers who were riding the wheel at the time and those that were waiting in line.

Ride service on the Ferris Wheel was suspended for rest of the night.  It is expected to be open Saturday.
