Tasty innovations come to Sweets and Snacks Expo

CHICAGO -- A dentist’s nightmare and a kid’s dream land, rows of every type of treat out there – and ones you’ve never seen before, are holding court inside McCormick Place for the annual Sweets and Snacks Expo.

More than 17,000 industry experts will stroll these halls over the next three days – checking out the latest and greatest in snack and candy products from 90 countries around the world.

Big and bold in sweets and snacks right now, the sour trend; sour gummies, worms, dots, you name it. Barks and small bites, moderation in its approach because candy is not going out of style.

Even athletes need to feed the beast from time to time -- ask Maria Sharpova, who is in town launching her chocolate line of Sugarpova.

Experts here say the average person eats candy twice a week. For those who avoid it, there are plenty of healthy options making their way into market, inside Innovation Avenue -- health, Chicago style.

Then there are the old favorites, a big winner in new innovation at this year’s show. Reese’s peanut butter cups kicked it up a notch – by adding Reese’s Pieces. Tic Tacs can now change flavors – in your mouth.

Then, after a treat or two, Zollipops can certainly come in handy -- to clean your teeth.
