CHICAGO — It appears Shane Victorino’s major league comeback bid has ended.

According to a number of sources close to the team, the Cubs released the veteran outfielder today after playing just nine games with their minor league affiliate.

Victorino racked up seven hits, five RBI and one stolen base during his time with the Iowa Cubs.

It remains to be seen if he’ll try to catch on somewhere else in majors, but if he has played his last game he’ll leave with a career .275 batting average, 1,274 hits, 108 home runs, and 231 stolen bases.
