CHICAGO -- A veteran Chicago police officer was caught on camera beating a hospital patient in handcuffs.

Officer Clauzell Gause, 40, is accused of pushing and punching the patient two years ago, after that patient hit the officer first.

Authorities say the patient was undergoing an involuntary mental evaluation.

He was handcuffed and taken to an observation room.

A surveillance camera shows Gause shoving the 24-year-old patient, punching him, then striking him two more times.

Gause was placed on desk duty in 2014.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.
