SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- The woman who admitted to giving her disabled daughter a fatal overdose of medication was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday afternoon.

Both the prosecution and the defense recommended probation.

Last week, Bonnie Liltz, 56, gave emotional testimony about her adopted daughter.

She said when her health began to fail, she worried her 28-year-old Courtney, who had cerebral palsy, would end up in an institution, and not get the care she needed. So, she wanted to commit a murder-suicide with pills.

Courtney died, but Liltz survived.

Liltz's attorney says she will undergo a medical evaluation at Cermak Hospital before she’s transferred to the department of corrections. They are planning to appeal.
