CHICAGO -- When it comes to celebrating, dancing and song, the Sanders family on the South Side of Chicago know how to party.

Celebrating Mother's Day is a tradition at the Sanders house. And even at 89 years old, William and his 86-year-old wife Earnestine let loose, as three generations of Sanders look on.

Earnestine gets top billing on Mother’s Day, of course, but William gets a gift too: the two were married on Mother’s Day several decades ago. Seventy-one years ago, in fact.

The couple’s constant teamwork has helped keep them together for those 71 years.

Marriage, as the nations divorce rate shows, is also hard. But not if you follow the Sanders simple rules of marriage: “Thank you” and “please” are the most important words in the book.

Together they raised 13 children in Chicago. And while celebrating moms on Mother’s Day is great, celebrating true love is even sweeter.
