CHICAGO -- A robbery at a Mexican restaurant in Lakeview was captured on surveillance video.

The man who robbed Torta Haus is probably the same person who recently  hit up four more businesses in the area.

At 2:15 Tuesday morning, the man walked up to the glass front door of Torta Haus in the 900 block of West Diversey. He walked away several times before breaking in.

“He has a little utility bag, crowbar, gloves and dust mask. Not his first rodeo,” said Torta Haus owner Robert Medina.

The man took out the crowbar and started breaking away the glass, then peeled it back and stepped inside.

The thief went right to the cash register, slamemd it down and took the entire drawer full of money. It took him 15 minutes from start to finish.

“I’m still shocked at the video, the way he carries on like he was at the grocery store waiting in line to pay.” Medina said.

Torta Haus is one of five businesses broken into since April 26 in the Lakeview area. Another one happened in the 2800 block of North Clark Street. 19th District police recommend businesses have and maintain a working surveillance system inside and out.  Medina is going to upgrade his system with more sensors.

Torta Haus has only been open for five months.

Chicago Police are asking Lakeview residents to spread the word about the robberies to businesses they go to, and call police if they see any suspicious activity -- particularly during the overnight hours.
