INDIANA – After losing to Donald Trump in the Indiana primary, Ted Cruz announced Tuesday night that he is dropping out of the presidential race.
"With a heavy heart, but with boundless optimism for the future of this nation, we are suspending our campaign," Cruz said Tuesday night. "But hear me now, we are not suspending our fight for liberty."
The victory for Trump gives him a secure lead, he's projected to have the 1,237 delegates necessary to lock down the party nomination before this summer's convention in Cleveland.
"From the beginning I said I would continue on if there was a viable path to victory," Cruz said. "Tonight, it appears that path has been closed."
Cruz made no mention of backing Trump in his bid to win the presidency.
