Man charged in deadly hit-and-run on Southwest Side

CHICAGO — Chicago police have charged a suspect in the hit-and-run death of a woman on the Southwest Side.

Police say Patrick Brazel, 27, was drunk when he hit two pedestrians as they were crossing South Archer Avenue near Lavergne Avenue at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday. He then fled the scene without offering help to the victims.

A 42-year-old woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and later pronounced dead. A 39-year-old man was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn in stable condition.

Brazel was charged with aggravated DUI, reckless homicide and leaving an accident. He will appear in court today.
