Woman killed, man injured in hit-and-run crash on Southwest Side

CHICAGO -- A woman was killed and a man was injured in a hit-and-run crash on the Southwest Side.

The victims were crossing the street at Archer and Lavergne avenues just before 11 p.m. Saturday, when they were stuck by a red Jeep.

Police say the driver was speeding.

42-year-old Guadalupe Chavez was killed.

A 39-year-old man was transported to the hospital, and is listed in stable condition.

A red Jeep with severe front-end damage was found more than two miles away, near 59th Street and Narragansett Avenue.

Police said the driver from the crash was arrested. Charges are pending.
