LOS ANGELES – Actor and comedian Will Ferrell is set to play late President Ronald Reagan in an upcoming movie, according to a new report.

Variety reports that Ferrell, known in part for his impersonations of George W. Bush for “Saturday Night Live,” will portray another Republican president for an upcoming project titled “Reagan.”

According to Variety, the script involves Reagan as he struggles with dementia during his second term, and a White House intern who tries to convince the commander in chief that he is an actor playing the president in a movie.

The real-life Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1994, after his presidency had ended. The announcement led some to wonder if he had mental degeneration while in office, though some staffers refuted such claims. Reagan died in 2004.

Ferrell, 48, is also co-producing the film, Variety reports.
