ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Cook County Sheriff's police are investigating after tear gas forced the evacuation of an apartment building in unincorporated Arlington Heights.

The Sheriff's office says 25 people were forced out of their apartments early today after the Long Grove Fire Department detected a chemical substance in the 6-unit building in the 4000 block of Jennifer Lane.

It turned out to be a canister of tear gas that had deployed.

The Long Grove Fire Department HAZMAT determined that the building was uninhabitable.

Residents were treated and released at the scene.

The Red Cross is helping them find a place to stay.

So far, no one has been arrested or charged.
