KANKAKEE, Ill. — Police in Kankakee, Illinois, are talking with a person of interest about the fire that killed two young children last week.

The fire broke out at an apartment building early Wednesday morning.  Over the weekend, a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old boy died from injuries suffered in that fire. Twenty other people were left homeless. A firefighter also suffered minor burns and was treated at the scene.

Firefighters had to rescue residents from a rear window, because the fire blocked their path to the front door.

Police say the fire was intentionally set and charges are expected soon.

The building housed businesses and eight apartment units.
